This won't be of much help to you but I can let you know that I use JR-Comm to access this Unix site and have had no problems with batch downloading, either using "sz *" nor "sz filename1 filename2 filename3". Sounds like you have tried all the settings so I would assume the problem is with the version of sz you are using on the Unix machine or the way it is set up.
