First I set my modem to its original state. then using at&f and atv0 and ats0=1 i got it set up the way i wanted.... i guess the major problem was the modem driver i was using... i ended up using the other.ss.drv that came with the MCM bbs package and it worked. so thanks to those who helped.... -- Keith M.
