I'd give up on the idea of using DESTA's - for a setup such as yours they are way too expensive, and they need AUI cables (the 15-pin cables) to con- nect them to the controllers. MTI's MESTAs are better, but they need a big dose of reality in their pricing. Talk to Allied Telesis at (800) 424-4284 about their "CentreCOM MX10" transceiver for $99.95. Next, take the money you're saving on DESTA's and buy a dead DEQNA from somebody. Call DEC at 800-225-5385 before the end of this month and get the $660 trade-in to a DELQA. VMS really doesn't like the DEQNA any more, and will soon start to ignore it. If you're going to be using Pathworks (or whatever the call it today) on the PC's, get any Ethernet card that's NDIS compatible. Everex SpeedLinks (800) 821-0806 are fast, inexpensive, and reliable. If you absolutely must have a DECserver 100, ok. I'd wait a while for the 200's to come down. Of course, the DECserver 200/DL (data leads only) has been discontinued by DEC and is pretty inexpensive these days.
