Keywords: SLIP, plp, Message-ID: <6053@creare.UUCP> Date: 21 Jun 91 16:42:40 GMT Organization: Creare Inc., Hanover, NH Lines: 25 Can someone please fill me in on SLIP for HP-UX? I have a pressing need and my HP sales connections say "we don't have any SLIP, supported or unsupported". Yet, I've seen discussion in this group about one. What is it? How can I get it? How reliable/robust is it? What are its drawbacks? I want to make occasional dialup connections for "ftp" and also run remote X windows (expecting it to be slow, even with a high-speed modem - we need to do remote support for a system we wrote for someone). Can I do these with this mythical SLIP? Some SLIPs I've seen on other systems seem to be set up for a hardwired serial connect, that's UP all of the time. I don't want to pay the phone bill for that. I need it to dialup "on demand". Others can be set up only as SLIP Servers, other only as Clients. I need both for HP-UX. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
