Thanks to all who responded. It turned out that, when turning off the backing pixmap facility, all the pages come out normally. The problem was, when trying to preview those files created by dvips or something similar, the screen becomes initialized to black (not white) each time GhostScript prompts for showpage, and so nothing appears in the screen unless things were intended to be drawn in white. Any idea for this? I'm using DG/UX 4.32 with some Japanese extensions (called JLS 1.32). --cchwitz
