I wrote in recently with a problem where my 256-color startup picture
(created with Giffer, which translates GIF files into startup
documents) wasn't displaying right on my 8-bit grayscale system.  I'm
thinking the system (7) doesn't realize it is dealing with grayscale
that early in the boot process(?).

In any case, I think my mail system has been down for a few days, so
