The last one I saw were 2 steel things (they looked like shallow troughs to me) anyway they were collapsable. So you took them out of the case, expanded them (sorry it's 6:50 in the morning and my spelling skill has not woken up yet, it usually does not do that until 2 in the afternoon. ). You have one trough for each wheel, so when you put them on the curb or small step you have to make sure they are the same distance from eachother as the wheels are on your wheelchair. In Ottawa you can borrow them for 2 weeks periods from DPRC (Disabled Person's Resource Centre), you can also rent or buy them from stores that sell wheelchairs.
