We have tried this & its does not work.  We avoid NFS stuff like the
plague.  You have all sorts of problems if machines go down, but the
real reason is that NFS is just so damm slow.  We have a couple of
r-commands (rcp, rmv, ruux) that do most of the work & that fail
gracefully (with queueing) when things fail.  We are using this now for
mail & news.
