Wallis) Newsgroups: comp.os.msdos.programmer,comp.os.msdos.misc Subject: Borland TKERNEL vs. HIMEM.SYS Message-ID: <23975@shlump.lkg.dec.com> Date: 29 Jun 91 13:02:45 GMT Sender: newsdaemon@shlump.lkg.dec.com Followup-To: comp.os.msdos.programmer Organization: Digital Equipment Corporation Lines: 40 I recently installed (yesterday) DOS 5.0. In order to do it I needed to repartition my hard rive. I decided to reinstall Borland C++ from scratch. When I ran TKINST it told me that the "A20 was already enabled so test is meaningless". I rebooted my system without HIMEM.SYS (which reported it was using A20) and TKINST ran fine. However, when I ran BCX it put up the top menu line and froze. Well, not exactly froze, my mouse cursor would still move but nothing would happen (I couldn't even use CTRL-ALT-DEL to reboot). My config.sys looks like this: device=himem.sys DEVICE=\DOS\SETVER.EXE DEVICE=\DOS\HARDRIVE.SYS device=\mouse\mouse.sys ser 2 DOS=HIGH FILES=40 Buffers=20,8 SHELL=\DOS\COMMAND.COM C:\DOS\ /p /e:512 I am running a 286 clone with 2MB of extended memory, Trident VGA, and Logitech mouse. As a work-around I am currently using BC/X to access my extended memory and this seems to be working. Any ideas? --- Barry L.
