Message-ID: Date: 30 Jun 91 23:47:58 GMT Sender: news@diemen.utas.edu.au Distribution: comp Lines: 34 Hi, I have recently upgraded to PC-NFS 3.5 and have got everything working without NIS. If I enable NIS then the "net name *" command fails with the following message - NFS005F : Authentication failure. The manual indicates that this message occurs if the pcnfsd rejects the user name and password. But the the pcnfsd has not been queried, as explained below. If I continue to mount drives and printers everything works as expected for an anonymous user. The NIS configuration works fine because I can telnet by name to hosts not in the \nfs\hosts file. Running rpc.pcnfsd with variable buggit set to 1 and watching any traffic to the port the daemon is running on shows *NO* traffic from the PC. There is some traffic to ypserv and ypbind but not much. How does PC-NFS authenticate users if it doesn't use the pcnfsd is trying to use NIS to do the authentication? Thanks for any and all advice. Cheers. --JohnM -- _______________________________________________________________________________ John B Miezitis University of Tasmania Computing Centre. email: John.Miezitis@cc.utas.edu.au | Belgium man Belgium!!! - Z.
