I looked on my SunOS 4.0.2 386i, and it is there, and is present under under SunOS 4.0.3 (checked on a Sun 4/280) and SunOS 4.1.1b (on my SS2). From this, I assume (perhaps wrongly) that dd is available under all machines running SunOS 4.0.2 or later. I believe dd is part of the standard SVR3/BSD 4.2 and later versions of those Operating Systems, although not all versions may do ASCII-EBCDIC conversion. I haven't tried dd to convert ASCII to EBCDIC and/or back, but I'm sure I'll get the opportunity -- I'll let you know if I have any problems. So, in addition to everything else I've seen said here, how about ``RTFM''? Please respond via e-mail -- I have a hard time keeping up with this list! ________________________________________________________________________ | Brad Knowles | Internet: blknowle@frodo.jdssc.dca.mil | | DISA/DSSO/JNSL | Ph: (703) 693-5849 Fax: (703) 693-7329 | | The Pentagon, Room BE685 |-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-| | Washington, D.C. 20301-7010 | Speaking from, *not* for DISA (nee DCA) | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
