NOS (Network Operating System, I think) is a program for the PC written by Phil Karn (KA9Q) for use with packet radio (though it is not limited to use over packet radio--it works with a vast number of PC network cards). NOS is a non-preemptive multi-tasking system for the PC that speaks IP, UDP, TCP, SMTP, telnet, ftp, and many more acronyms. It lacks being a complete operating system only in that it can't load and run arbitrary programs from disk--all its tasks must be compiled into it. I have ported xntpd so that it runs in this environment. If you want to try this out, you will need your own copy of NOS and the Turbo C compiler with which to compile it. NOS is available for anonymous FTP from the directory uscd.edu:hamradio/ka9q/nos. My port appears to work, so I would like to give it out to anyone who would like to give it a try. The port is (at best) a beta release. It is available as a README, a set of diffs from NOS version 910614, and a bunch of xntp source files. The changes to NOS are relatively minor, so it should work with any relatively recent version of NOS. If there is enough demand, I can compile an executable with ntp in it and make that available as well. The distribution is available for anonymous ftp in allspice.lcs.mit.edu:pub/ath/nosntp.tar.Z andrew
