One of my users just stopped by to say that he heard about a program
called awkcc that compiles awk programs into C code.  Gave an example
of 6 times performance improvement in one case.

Has anyone heard of awkcc?  Is the source publically available?  Is
there a GNU version?  Has anyone compiled it for Apollo?
