That was my impression too, until I discovered that (unlike HOpenResFile) FSpOpenResFile is not implemented in glue, and therefore is not available on pre-7.0 systems. I like to use FSSpecs internally but I think I'm going to be passing them to HCreate, HOpen, HOpenResFile, et al. for quite a while.... Jim Matthews Dartmouth Software Development
