The original poster is refering to the sicn (ics?) that gets grayed when you hide an application and not the icon (icl?) itself. Which _does_ have alot to due with whether or not the app is hidden (but still running). Also in reference to an earlier post there is no need on the Mac to continually "peek" at the application to see if it's finished rendering or doing whatever. There is a thing called the notification manager which most/some programmers take advantage of that can flash a small icon (or a sound or an alert box) notifying you that some process was completed. An excellent example of this is Mandlezot by Dave Platt. Of course that still doesn't stop me from checking on the progress from time to time if I'm bored ;).
