Lattice has been able to produce reentrant code. AmigaDOS 1.3 Copyright 1988 contained the resident command and the pure bit. I'd say resident commands have been around for awhile, I sure have been using them for a long time. Not to mention all AmigaDOS libraries and devices are pure, which cuts down on executable size and the need for link libraries.
