concerning delaying jobs and batching them at night:

Can't you use a CRON-type of program to run your jobs at night?  CRON
is a program that runs and checks a file of commands you set up.  So
you could tell CRON to start Mathmatica at midnight taking its commands
from a command file already set up (assuming Mathematica will read
commands from such a file).
