I have changed one line in ruleset 11 in our sendmail.cf:

S11
R$*<@$+>$*              $@$1<@$2>$3                     already ok
#R$+                    $@$1<@$w>                       tack on our hostname
R$+                     $@$1<@$m>                       tack on our domainname

Maybe this will fix your problem.
