I want to switch off the effects of \obeylines when the footnotes are typeset. How can I do that? I have tried one or two ``obvious'' approaches, to no avail. Also, I have been unable to find anything applicable after a look in the TeXBook. My apologies if this is an FAQ or if I overlooked a straightforward solution somewhere in the TeXBook.
