Lines: 28 I'm interested in reliability comments on the Exabyte 8500 (5G/tape) vs the 8200 (2G/tape). Should I buy 8500's yet or make do with some 8200's for now. Some points: - Is the 8500 mature enough yet? - The 8500 puts twice the data on the same tape. Is the error rate higher than the 8200 or a problem at all? (We'll be using Sony data certified tapes). - Is there any s/w (PD or $$) that makes use of the fast seek features of the 8500? I'm interested in machines Sun and HP 9000/700. I plan to use "dump", "restore", and "mt". Any comments would be welcome. I'll summarize for the net if there is sufficient interest.
