minor kernel fixes
Fixed the trap-handling code to cope properly with an 11/44 cache-error
trap (none should arrive at present, the way the cache is initialized).
Also changed SMC driver's PATIENCE setting from 4 to 1, which still
screens out the transient crap from our drive but prints anything serious.
