we survive a crash
Crashed on trap type 0 (kernel bus error), cause unknown (alas, I didn't
think to do a dump before bringing things back up), followed by some
VERY delicate filesystem repairs (smashed superblock).  Amazingly enough,
we don't seem to have lost anything.
