ed mailcheck optimized
The editor's mailchecking can be a trifle slow when the mailboxes
are quite a ways across the disk.  So, I've made a couple of optimizations.
First, the mailchecking action is now overlapped with user "think time",
with the result announced before the NEXT prompt.  Second, mail is
checked only every N (currently 5) prompts rather than every time.
