SMC ECC code improved
Now running a new Unix with still further tweaks to the SMC driver's
error handling.  Specifically, it is now much fussier about when it
will accept an ECC as a valid solution to an error, and in particular
it won't unless the error has persisted past 3 retries.  This is an
attempt to cope successfully with the recent situation where we have
lots of transient erroneous ECC's sprinkled with a few real ones.  I
have turned trust-ECC mode back on but will hold off for a while on
turning write verifies off -- I would like to find out whether the
real ECCs result from a bad write or later corruption.
