Stty-type paging probably should not be in .profiles; it should probably be turned on as part of the login process, which is also smart enough to know whether it's on a hardcopy terminal (which probably should NOT have paging). Some user education is needed, because even experienced hacks have been known to ask "why isn't my program doing anything", when it's hung waiting for the user to hit return. This is particularly noticeable in connection with programs like tape(1), which produce terminal output only as a side effect. It would seem desirable for the necessary education to precede, rather than follow, installation of paging as the default for everyone. p(1) should continue regardless; it has options (like skipping ahead) that the stty-paging feature does not.
