I have thought of doing exactly this thing, a la TENEX, but never
got around to it.  I would be very interested in any results you
come up with; I think this is the way it should have been done in
the first place, and cannot for the life of me really understand how
groups were ever supposed to work the way they are implemented.
Sigh.
