Sorry but they were not really started at the same time unless my
memory is really suffering from old age (I was on the original
BTL Multics effort). Remember Multics was a joint MIT-BTL-GE 
effort and spanned many years. Think you will find that Unix
was really a reaction to the severe case of stretched development
and lateness of Multics at BTL-MH and thus the complete lack
of interactive capabilites (MH was REDUCED to running gecos).
