It hasn't come up yet, but I'd much rather present management with ideas about something called "Usenet" than "Lola" (e.g. to justify the phone costs we are incurring). Another point brought up by Lauren's comment is that we should be careful of the names of existing services, esp. registered trademarks. Now, for my suggestions: telecon This is just a shortened form of one of Mark's suggestions, referring to tele-conferencing. One disadvantage I see is that (in my limited experience) "tele-conferencing" typically connotes a \synchronous/ communications medium, which Usenet certainly isn't! compucon Like "telecon", but meaning "computer conferencing", which is exactly what Usenet provides. info-ex Short for "information exchange". The longer phrase "computer-based information exchange" is essentially synonymous with "computer conference". I know none of the above suggestions contain the word "net", but it seems a bit tiresome to try to maintain that as a rule of forming names for computer networks (e.g. ARPANET, CSNET, Usenet, Tele-net, Cognet, & etc. ad nauseum). Also, computer science nomenclature not withstanding, not all neologisms need be acronyms. Paul Lustgarten Bell Labs - Indian Hill
