Autzoo.1098 hacknews utzoo!henry Wed Nov 4 22:07:39 1981 netnews I am contemplating major cuts to the list of newsgroups we get. The cost in cash for phone bills seems to be lower than I had feared, but is still substantial and steadily growing. The cost in time, frustration, and schedule disruption involved in maintaining the connection by hand is becoming excessive; I am getting fed up with the continuous struggle to maintain a stream of data that has had very little of real interest lately. At the moment, I am mostly eyeing the fa.* newsgroups. The net.* stuff is modest in quantity and by and large superior in quality; both the bulk and the drivel percentage are much higher in fa.*. I am considering cutting out most of the fa.* newsgroups, keeping only a very small selection. And yes, unix-wizards is on the hit list; it has been singularly unsatisfying of late. I have not made any definite decisions yet, and there are a couple of developments in the wind that may alter the situation, but anyone who wants to influence the verdict(s) had better speak up. Arguments on the basis of "but I find X very interesting" are not sufficient to convince me that it's worth MY time shoveling garbage over the wires.
