But I think there is a difference between a format on ordinary terminals and one on the final-copy terminals; in many cases users may be trying to get good rush copy out before the shut-down, only to be defeated by the message. At least an unannounced shut-down simply results in an end to output; it is the insertion of a message which I feel is the more annoying problem, particularly since it may not often be noticed. (Which sort of negates its usefulness as a warning...) What about the present compromise for all ordinary terminals, and transmitting a few ctrl-g's instead of printing characters to the Diablo and Multiwriter ports? A sound is a better warning if one is not watching the output, and doesn't screw up printing.
