Autzoo.1122 hacknews utzoo!henry Thu Nov 12 22:55:13 1981 CSRG line again The current procedure for using the CSRG line is as follows (be warned that it will change again shortly, as I have figured out a way to get rid of the stupid switch flipping): 1. Go look at the modem. If it is turned on, somebody else is using the line, go away. 2. cu dir -l /dev/tty39 -s 9600 you will NOT see "Connected". 3. Go turn the modem on. You will NOW see "Connected". Hit RETURN and dear old Dmitri should ask you who you want. Tell him, and you should see a login message. 4. Use the line. It seems to work ok at 4800. 9600 definitely is unusable for serious work. Note that the 45 and 50 look for login at 9600 and 2400 but not 4800. 5. When finished, get out of cu (via ~.). 6. GO TURN THE MODEM OFF. In the past I've prescribed a slightly more elaborate disconnect procedure, involving talking to Dmitri again; on investigation, this does not seem to be necessary. There is a horrible fate in store for the next person who forgets to turn the modem off after using the line.
