One of my hobbies is flying single-engine airplanes.  We pilots have
a saying about this sort of mechanical problem that we use to justify
what might appear to be overcaution:  "I'd rather be on the ground
wishing I were in the air than in the air wishing I were on the ground."
More succinctly, "Better a live coward than a dead hero."
