It would be interesting to run some benchmarks comparing the latest A and B
versions for a typical days worth of incoming news.  I expect that the B
version would be considerably faster than even the newest A version.
However, B's checknews algorithm is considerably slower than A's - this
really matters most to sites that print a "You have news" message in
the login procedure.
