I think I disagree.  The defaults  for  programs  are  never
right  for  everyone.   I  enjoy  having  the ability to set
things up the way I like them.   I  do  dislike  having  all
those  .xxx  files  cluttering  up  $HOME though.  Maybe the
solution would be to collect them all and conventionally put
"setup"  or  "environment"  files  (including  .profile)  in
$HOME/setup/* .
