BUFLEN
This is an idea that has been bugging me for a while and is
universally applicable to a lot of programs besides netnews.

Why not instead of having statically allocated buffers (e.g.
"BUFLEN" in netnews), dynamically allocate them? Initially
malloc a BUFLEN's worth and when that runs out then use realloc
to get some more.
