While the shuttle will continue to be the cheapest way of getting things into orbit, the SRB-X, to be built by Boeing Aerospace, will supplement the shuttle flights. It will be designed from shuttle components, and expected to pack the power (and maybe a little more) or the current SRB. After launch, it too will parachute into the ocean and be recovered for reuse. It is to take the place of the Delta and Atlas Centaur boosters.
