Wouldn't it make more sense just to have /bin/mail do the checking?
If it knows the system at the end (or one of the systems along the
list) it could just send it directly.  I would rather see the fix
put into a program that is allowed to look at L.sys, since it would
be cheaper to read L.sys than to fork a uuname.  Another problem
here is that just because a link is in L.sys does not mean it is
a working, cheap link.
