Subject: single character news items

I don't know if this was the cause of the short message mentioned
by watmath!bstempleton, but my terminal is on a very noisy line
to the Unix system at the Computer Science Dept. at Duke and often
inserts or transforms characters.  More than once I have had it
generate 'r' to one of the news items - it is possible that if
something went back to some semiautomatic mailer that it might get
on the net (usually I have been able to kill the mail, but it's
always possible someone doesn't ...).  I'm not sure how this could
be solved short of doing checked protocols EVERYWHERE...
