Crates busted--FSA is the culprit.
Last week, when I tried to run Dr. Pomeranz's datac software,
  it consistently returned 0's.
I ran the diagnostic on the crate and it showed the same
  behaviour.
Wern used the manual Branch Highway Driver on it and everyhing
  checked out with the manual BHD--hmmmmm.
I turned out that there was a broken wire in the connector
  on the data output cable from crate #1 [the systems crate].
  This wire (Function Strobe Acknowledge) is vital for
  computer controlled operation of the crate.
Pomeranz's program will be tried again asap.
