Most systems I know of have netnews installed under user id "news"
Netnews statistics reports etc are mailed to this user id on our system.
As was suggested, it is  an alias for the real news administrator (me).
I know of many other systems which use "news" for this purpose.  Let's not 
create another user id for the contact person if this one is as 
common as I think it is.
