a couple of observations: most of the 'news' seems to be about the net;
a curious fact that should be considered by anyone worried about phone
charges. second: many of us seem to think our liberties are being 
violated by every restriction of net traffic. the big frustration is
that the net is paid for by the jokers above us in the patriarchy.
if the jokers are committed to serving our interests, then we have
a basis for complaint, but the jokers would be "justified" if they 
decided to serve only their own interests. obviously the conflict
is between the enormous potential of this network to become a forum
among the participating intellectuals (yes, sigh, where IS the pro-
letariat?), & the fact that its formal (paid-for) purposes are more
limited & less worthwhile. the solution? at the risk of my continued
access to the net, i'd say each of us should overthrow our respective
administrator. free the net for the people, or the computer scientists,
at least. 

oh, excuse me. did i say "patriarchy" up there? i meant "hierarchy".
