system shutdowns
Users who work right up to the last minute before Unix shuts down (for
backups or whatever) should be aware that a shutdown shuts down EVERYTHING,
including programs that are running and printouts that are coming out on
the printer.  You cannot "leave something going" just before shutdown and
expect it to finish.
