Disk work finally got started, rather late because of a missing cable.
The "new" drive (the one we started with) is being checked out and aligned;
it superficially appears workable (last I heard).  Downtime at 1300 is to
give it a try.  Looks like this one may go smoothly;  cross your fingers.
