card reader status
For all you punchcard fans, here's a quick summary of what happened last
night when we tried out the card reader:  it didn't work.  Evidence
suggests a hardware problem rather than driver difficulties, possibly
in the reader itself or (maybe) in the cable.  The problem is that the
reader doesn't seem to acknowledge the controller's existence, and
vice versa.  Further attacks on this problem will be made shortly.
