Autzoo.535 general utzoo!henry Tue Apr 28 15:59:25 1981 336+109 renovations CAF has (finally!!) approved the renovations that will result in: - UTCC taking over 107, 108, and 109 for a major new RJE terminal (among other things, this will supersede the current 109 setup) plus the associated services like advising; - the existing 109 hardware getting moved up to 336, which should considerably facilitate the long-desired RJE-from-Unix project, and will give us some other useful bits of hardware (like a printer for the 34) - the renovation of 336, to include proper airconditioning (at long last, and much overdue!) and a raised floor. Officially, the bureaucratic wheels begin to revolve on 1 May 1981. The intent is to have things more-or-less complete by 1 Sept 1981. It remains to be seen whether this target will be met. The renovation of 336 may well mean some disruption of Unix service; at the moment, we have no idea what the schedule for this will be. Every attempt to minimize disruption and to schedule it at the least inconvenient time will be made, subject to the obvious limitation that we have only partial control over this operation. More news when we know more.
