state of the Unix
The card reader hardware now works;  the connector at the controller
end of the cable was inserted wrong.  The V7 card reader driver does
not, although it malfunctions in such a gross manner (each invocation
reads two cards and then end-of-files) that some simple mistake was
probably made.  The ex-V6 pack has been reformatted (after a root image
was taken on tape ROOT).  Still running the regular /unix with only one
drive configured;  a reboot will be necessary shortly to bring up a
two-drive system (I don't want the card reader in the system until I
understand what's wrong with it).
