recompiling Unix
I have begun, in spare moments, something that has needed doing for some
time:  recompiling all system programs.  We know for a fact that some of
the binaries that come from Bell do not correspond to what the latest C
compiler puts out when fed the same source;  recompiling has fixed at
least one bug.  Getting them all done will take time, but a start has
been made.
