the morning crash
Crash this morning was caused by a hard i/o error in the swap area.  This
is probably the problem we see with some frequency on this drive:  it's
told to write one thing and it writes another.  Extending write verifies
to swap operations is hard, but it will be investigated.  At least the
file systems are safe, since write verifies work there (and do turn up
errors with some frequency).
