shutting off news
"news -s !ALL" looks like it should shut off all news to you, and in
fact this is a better way of doing it than using "None", but an ordinary
user STILL can't do this for himself because news(1) insists on turning
"!ALL" into "!ALL,general" when recording it in .uindex .  Argh.
