This is because the program just stretches out the dungeon to fill the screen, without adding any extra food or magic or anything. I discovered this after playing rouge in 48-line mode on my Ambassador for a long time, and wondering why I wasn't doing very well. I switched to 18-line mode, and now I do very well! (for me, anyway). I haven't tried a smaller screen, but it might be even better. The key thing is, if the dungeon is 18 lines high, no room is ever more than 2 lines high or wide. This greatly simplifies searching dark rooms and searching for secret passages. Any ideas on what might be done to make the game fair to people who play on large screens? Independently of winning, I think that it is more fun on the large screen. S. McGeady
